manxie Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Hi folks, just a quick question about the idle speed, is it normal for the revs to stay at about 2000rpm when you de-clutch?It does come down and settle at about 1000rpm after a few seconds when stationary, but if you rev it it does the same stays at about 2000rpm the settle a few seconds later. Could the mass air flow meter have something to do with this? Many thanks Quote
manxie Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 and the car is ???? Hi sorry the car is a ford galaxy glx 2.3 petrol Quote
mikej Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 Sounds like the idle control valve needs cleaning out with some carb cleaner, it just fills up with gunk and causes needle to stick, cleaned mine last year rather than buying a new one and it's still ok now. Your revs even at 1000rpm appear to be a little high mine sit at 750 once choke is off? Just a thought, it's only two bolts if i remember and not difficult plus it don't cost anything to have a look  Best of luck Quote
sparky Paul Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 As Mike says, sounds like a sticky idle control valve. If a clean doesn't work, aftermarket replacements are now available from motor factors, cheaper than main dealer. Quote
